The International Congress on Mathematics and Music within an Interdisciplinary Approach, held on 21–22 June 2019, brought together researchers, educators, musicians, mathematicians, and scholars from various disciplines to explore the multifaceted relationship between mathematics and music. The congress addressed a wide range of topics, including the historical development of mathematical and musical thought in Eastern and Western traditions, interdisciplinary models for mathematics and music education, mathematical structures in music, mathematical coding approaches in the analysis of classical composers’ works, the determination of harmonic relationships between sounds through mathematical functions, the relationship between polyphonic music and mathematical principles, and the significance of mathematics in music philosophy.

Through presentations, discussions, and scholarly exchanges, participants examined both theoretical and practical dimensions of the mathematics–music relationship. The studies presented demonstrated how mathematical concepts contribute to the understanding, analysis, teaching, and creation of music, while also revealing the potential of music as a tool for enhancing mathematical thinking and learning. The congress provided a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, leading to new perspectives, research findings, and educational models. This volume brings together selected contributions from the congress and aims to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, educators, and students interested in the intersection of mathematics and music.
